MEET LETTIE
Lettie is a historian, history professor, and racial equity strategist & consultant. She is the owner of Lettie’s History Education & Consulting Services, Inc., and her pop-up bookshop But Then You Read. Lettie is also the host and owner of her podcast “History Shows Us”. Her passion for telling history’s truths and connecting the past to today’s racial and social justice issues is evident in the work I do.
Lettie received her master’s degree in History in 2015 from UNCW, focusing primarily on American history and specializing in Black American and race studies, contributing enormously to her work as a historian today. In May 2020 she completed her master’s degree in Conflict Management & Resolution, also at UNCW. This MA equipped her with knowledge and skills to assess, respond to, and manage a broad spectrum of conflicts in different settings, and effectively mediate, facilitate, and communicate.
Through her business Lettie’s History Education and Consulting Services she provides many learning opportunities on various platforms. Using a unique approach, Lettie combines her extensive history and antiracism knowledge with her conflict resolution skills to have necessary racial justice conversations with truth and compassion to help equip others with tangible tools to create personal and collective transformation. She helps aspiring and active change makers take aligned and sustained action for racial justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion so Black people and those in other marginalized communities can experience true justice.
One of her favorite James Baldwin quotes is, "I am what time, circumstance, history have made of me, certainly, but I am, also, much more than that. So are we all." These words continue to be a reminder and a guide for her as she carries out what she knows is part of her divinely driven purpose.
